This hat was designed after John Posthumus, a spinner from Wolfe Island, donated 20 balls of wool he had spun to our local knitting group, SABLE Kingston, so that we could knit hats and scarves to donate in our community.

Born in 1924, John began spinning during WW2 to support his family with food rations. After emigrating to Canada and living a full life farming on Wolfe Island, he returned to spinning in 2000. To date he remains a passionate spinner.

We used John’s hand spun, thick, dense wool in this basic hat pattern, to create a hat that is durable and perfect to donate in our (or your) community. Not only will it be warm but it will wick water.

Using the basic pattern you can easily knit the hat with your favourite wool and method for knitting in the round: a circular needle or 5 double point needles.
