Jointly
I’m guessing I’m not the only person who has a lot of small amounts of lace weight yarns on hand - leftovers from a larger project, or single skeins of something that was irresistible. Here’s my solution!
Jointly hat is made by holding two lace weight yarns together, or “jointly”. You’ll need two strands, but that’s the perfect opportunity to create a blend of lovely fine fibres AND use up twice the yardage.
You’ll need two lace weight yarns, EACH 160 (190, 210, 240) y/146 (174, 192, 220) m, or you can use just a light fingering or fingering weight yarn on it’s own.
The brim starts on smaller circular needle with the Italian Tubular cast-on (link to tutorial in the pattern), or you can use the simpler Twisted German cast-on. Then one-colour brioche is worked for the brim, which transitions to simple soothing stockinette on larger needles through the crown. (You’ll need a method for working a small diameter in the round to complete the hat - two circulars, double-pointed needles or magic loop as you prefer.)
Jointly is a quick knit that makes a lightweight yet warm hat. If you rock a pile of curls or coils, consider going up one size from what is suggested.
