Joker beanie & cowl
Joker beanie is a colour work beanie worked bottom up in the round. After the brim you turn the work inside out to make the sides and crown. The beanie comes in four sizes and is intended to be worn with approx. 0 to 5 cm/0 to 1.75” of negative ease. The cowl is worked bottom up in the round with the harlequin pattern all over.

GAUGE 24 st x 32 r = 10 x 10 cm/10 x 10” over stranded knitting after blocking on 3,5 mm (US 4) needles
NOTE! Since both beanie and cowl are worked only in stranded knitting, and therefore don’t have that much elasticity, the gauge is crucial for the fit.
NEEDLES 3 mm (US 2,5) circular needle, 40 cm/16” long (for cast on and the first round) - both beanie and cowl.
3,5 mm (US 4) circular needle, 40 cm/16” long - both beanie and cowl.
3,5 mm (US 4) DPNs for the crown (or long circular needle for magic loop) - beanie only.
Always use a needle that will give the correct gauge.
TECHNIQUES decrease right/left (beanie), stranded knitting
NOTIONS 1 marker for beginning of round, darning needle, scissors.
MEASURMENTS BEAINE (see photos for schematic)
A (circumference at the bottom): 46,5-(50-53,5-56,5) cm / 18.5-(19.75-21-22.25)“
B (full length with the brim folded): 20,5-(20,5-23-23) cm / 8-(8-9-9)”
C (length brim): 6,5-(6,5-7,5-7,5) cm / 2.5-(2.5-3-3)“
- The beanie is intended to be worn with approx. 0 to 5 cm/0 to 1.75” of negative ease so choose a size that is 0 to 5 cm/0 to 1.75” smaller in circumference than the circumference of your head. If you know your stranded knitting tends to make a very inflexible fabric choose a size with as close to no negative ease as possible.
