The design works up quickly with two strands of knitting worsted weight yarn held together, and requires basic knowledge of knitting and purling with minimal shaping. The openwork at the side of the skirt requires an understanding of basic crochet stitches, and is achieved using simple chain stitches and single crochet. A similar pattern is repeated along the hemline of the skirt, and dropped stitches in the knitted portion of the pattern (this is easy!) create additional interest and openwork.
