Another of my stay-on baby shoe range. A vintage classic with a modern twist, these baby sandals are as beautiful as they are practical having been, lovingly designed to stay on babies’ feet. The Joseph Sandal features an elasticated ankle casing and open-top foot with a simple cable to rib pattern over the toe. The fabric created is lightweight and a great alternative to socks. They are perfect for summer or for layering over tights in the winter. The sandals with tights and little shorts combo would be super cute!

TECHNICAL
The pattern has been technically edited, and test knitted. You will practise provisional cast-on, elastic bind-off, cables, knitting in the round and Kitchener stitch. The pattern has no seams and minimal finishing. Blocking is essential to relax the cables and give a professional finish.

SKILL LEVEL
The pattern is suitable for intermediate and above. However, if you are an enthusiastic beginner who enjoys a learning curve and is looking to step-up, there are accompanying videos for all the main techniques. The pattern includes full written instructions and charts for the cable pattern.

NEEDLES
US 1.5/2.5mm double-pointed OR circular needles (for magic loop method) PLUS US 2/2.75mm double-pointed OR circular needles
If using circular needles, choose between 24in/60cm and 32in/80cm in length.

NOTES
This pattern requires soft elastic for ankle casing.

YARN
The pattern was designed using a 4ply weight yarn. The samples shown are knitted using a 4ply yarn from West Yorkshire Spinners. Any baby 4ply yarn or general sock yarn is suitable.

When choosing your yarn the ball weight to length should be similar to the following: weight 50g/1.75oz to length: 200m/218 yds.

The Joseph Sandal comes in 5 sizes:
Birth to 6 wks, UK-00 / US-0, length 9.2cm
6 wks to 3 mths, UK-0 / US-1, length 10.2cm
3-6 mths, UK-1 / US-2, length 10.7cm
6-9 mths, UK-2 / US-3, length 11.8cm
9-12 mths, UK-3 / US-4, length 12.5cm

The fit is aimed at the upper-end size and age. For example, a 3-6 month shoe size is worked out on lengths and proportions of a standard 6 month foot.
