This pattern makes a bookmark based on the Josephine knot (named for Napoleon’s Josephine but much older originally).

Unlike my Celtic bookmark which starts with almost 400 chain, this comes in three parts and the longest requires just under 100 chain to start.

Made in #10 crochet cotton it creates a bookmark about 5.5 inches (14 cm) long and 1.5 inches (4 cm) wide.

It only requires about 30m of #10 crochet cotton.

The pattern contains written instructions, charts that are there mainly to help you keep track of where you are when adding the edging and photographs showing how to fit the parts together to form the bookmark.

Suggestions are given for a longer bookmark or even a belt.
