Designed similarly to The Joyce, the original DK version of this hat released in 2014, this fingering weight version uses a solid/tonal yarn to create a lighter-weight, more subtle version of the fantastically bright original!

Fitted (Slouch): 18.75 (22.5)” / 47.5 (57) cm circumference.
The fitted version is shown modeled on a 22” / 56 cm circumference head with 3¼“ / 8.5 cm negative ease.

• Kelbourne Woolens Camper (2-ply fingering weight; 100% wool; 200 yds/ 183 m per 50g skein), 1-2 skeins (see Pattern Notes for details)

NOTES

• This hat is worked in the round from the brim up. Instructions are given for the Fitted size first, with the Slouch size in parentheses. When only one set of instructions is provided, it applies to both sizes.

• Recommended ease for a Fitted Hat is anywhere between 2-4” / 5-10 cm of negative ease. Recommended ease for a slouch hat is anywhere between 1” / 2.5 cm of negative ease and 1” / 2.5 cm positive ease.

• The Fitted size requires approx. 175 yds / 160 m of fingering weight yarn (without swatching). The Slouch size requires approx. 275 yds / 252 m of fingering weight yarn (without swatching). If you don’t plan to swatch, you can likely complete the fitted hat with just one 50g skein.

• Adjust needle size as necessary to match gauge.

• Written instructions are provided for the entirety of the hat.

• When the circumference of the hat becomes too small for the circular needle during the Crown Shaping, change to DPNs to finish the hat.

• Additional stitch markers (4) may be desired to separate each of the 5 sections of design; these are not noted in the pattern but may be added per the users preference. Make sure the BOR marker is distinct from any additional markers you may choose to use.

• When knitting to length before beginning the crown shaping, it is best to knit slightly longer than noted to complete the repeats ending with Rnd 5. For example: if 6 repeats takes you to 5¾” / 14.5 cm (for the Fitted version), knit one additional repeat to avoid a too-short hat.
