Joyful Rain Shawl
“Anyone who says sunshine brings happiness has never danced in the rain.” ~Author Unknown
Welcome to Stacey Namaste Designs. This shawl is part of my Finding Joy series. ”Joy is not a constant. It comes to us in moments - often ordinary moments. Sometimes we miss out on the bursts of joy because we’re too busy chasing down the extraordinary moments.” ~Brené Brown. This series was inspired in order to help us recognize the joy in the little things and ordinary moments that too often pass us by.
This asymmetrical triangle shawl is designed to provide the maker agency, choice, and variation - you can use any yarn, any size, any color scheme. The cotton yarn I chose creates a light and airy garment that flows beautifully. For tips on styling, visit this site: 10 ways to style an asymmetrical shawl
This design, Joyful Rain, was inspired by a summer road trip up the northern California coast into Oregon, where the weather was cool and rainy. My heart was heavy with some difficult life challenges. I love and miss the rain, and I just got this HUGE smile on my face as I stood in the rain, not needing an umbrella, letting the cool rain fall on me. I often listen to the sounds of rain in order to fall asleep, and it brings me so much peace and joy! My heart bursting with joy, I knew this raindrop/umbrella shawl design was calling to me and I knew which yarn was perfect for it.
The photographed example is in a color gradient yarn, Hobbii Twister (Sport), in color Raindrops #46, 26 stitches to 35 rows for 4,” needle size 4. This yarn is a cotton/acrylic mix, 250g, 1093 yards. I used the whole skein for this project, which creates a long and flowing shawl. Feel free to use less and make a smaller shawl. There are two stitch patterns, Raindrop and Umbrella, along with stockinette borders. You can design this shawl to alternate stitch patterns and lengths as you please, but pattern includes suggestions to match photographed sample.
