J&P CARDIGAN
On a visit to a small seaside town, I noticed a woman hurrying down the street. She was wearing rather ratty jeans, paired with a striped cardigan and a prominent pearl necklace. So effortless and chic was the look, I immediately wanted to recreate it.
The cardigan took on a life of its own in my mind’s eye. I could hardly remember what the original looked like; what inspired me was the feeling it gave me. I decided to make it textured and jacket-like, yet slouchy - maximising that effect of appearing almost unintentionally pulled-together.
The result: a design that’s as easy to make as it is to wear. Knit it quickly in ‘mindless’ garter stitch, then wear it with jeans and pearls (J&P) - or any sartorial setup of your choosing!

NOTE ON DIFFICULTY LEVEL
This is hands-down my easiest garment pattern. If you can knit a rectangle in garter stitch, you can knit this. Don’t be intimidated by the mention of ‘short rows’ if you have never done them before; these are a very simple version that requires no special skill (no wrapping stitches or any other weirdness; you just stop the row early). The 3-needle bind-off is the only technique you will need to look up if you don’t already know it.
