June 5, 2012 marks the 60th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth’s coronation, making her the second longest reigning British monarch behind Queen Victoria. And even though summer is here, sometimes the English weather still calls for a pair of fingerless mitts to keep your hands warm in sudden cold spells. These quick lacy mitts are knit from the bottom up, with garter stitch edging and stockinette thumb gusset. Use a bamboo or cotton blend for a cooler mitt, or a luxury wool/silk or wool/cashmere for an extra special pair.

SKILLS NEEDED
Casting on, working in the round, knit, purl, increases, decreases, yarn overs. This is a good first lace project for the adventurous advance beginner.

SIZES
Small (medium, large), approximately 6 (7, 8) inches in circumference, unstretched. Shown in size large.
