There is really no “up” or “down” to this pattern; it’s all in what you like - if you like the zigzag part on the top, you can make that the top!

I use Istex lettlopi (100% icelandic ull) with 3.5mm short dpns for my julekuler (christmas balls) in contrasting colors. This needle size with this yarn makes a big, fat christmas ball, which if you like that you can leave it as-is or felt it to make it smaller and more compact. Sometimes, I also felt them if I’m messy with my tension or make a couple small mistakes.
Use smaller dpns if you like smaller balls.

These are pretty quick and make nice gifts. After keeping my own little catalogue of these things for a while I finally decided to chart them out and release them into the wild!
