Julia Heliconian Shawl
When beginning to swatch for my latest shawl design, I wanted something simple that would showcase a beautiful skein of yarn - something that was easy, looked beautiful, but was still interesting to make - and of course, I wanted my traditional “any weight, any gauge” style. I think this design fits the bill nicely. I used Knit Picks Swish Tonal, a worsted weight yarn, for a quick crochet project, but my testers used yarn from lace to bulky.
I named this shawl the “Julia Heliconian Shawl” because the shape of the shawl reminds me of a butterfly, and the colors remind me of a Julia Heliconian butterfly. There are two versions of this shawl: a straight edged, more “traditional” shaped shawl, or a “batwing” shape, which wraps around your shoulders easily and will stay in place.
