This is named after and designed for the first grandchild of the first friend I made when I went to a new elementary school in Laurelton, NY. It was a hard time for me, because I had left the “city” part of New York City and moved to what we thought was the country, as compared with our Bronx apartment, El and subway life.

I was treated with suspicion by some and hostility by others, and she extended the first kindness and openness to me, inviting me home to lunch at her house, across the street, and shared my interest in reading and talking. She and another elementary school friend, found me nearly 50 years later and journeyed to visit, and we reconnected. I celebrate her continued generations, knowing that they come from love and humanity.
