July Tee
KAL happening Here!
When July comes, we have full-out summer. It is hot. It doesn’t matter how lacy your knit might be, wool just won’t be comfortable!
Silk, on the other hand, is supremely comfortable on a hot day. Silk feels better against your skin when it is a little bit damp (due to sweating) and does a good job of not holding in heat. If you have never knit or worn pure silk, you really should try!
If you live somewhere with a cool summer, this tee will be equally beautiful in cobweb weight wool, or a silk-wool blend. Expect it to look fuller and hang a bit further from the body - wool just won’t drape like silk can.
Beyond the yarn, this tee is designed with a wider and lower neckline and slits on the sides to help keep you cool. The loose cut swings as you move and allows airflow around your body. Little details that can make such a difference on a hot, hot day.
The cut is indeed boxy, but for all those who avoid boxy cut tees because they swing way out after a larger bust, this pattern includes instructions for adding 1, 2, 3, or 4 inches of extra length in short rows on the front (generally speaking, for cup sizes C-DDD). This allows the tee to hang straight down after the bust rather than wrinkling and tenting out. (the tee shown has “D” or 2 inches of short rows) If you don’t want the short rows, don’t worry, just leave them out!
July is the fourth of my 2015 collection of fine-gauge sweaters. I asked myself; what if I made a whole collection of sweaters, exactly as I would like them to look, and feel, without worrying about how long they take to make, or how complicated the pattern might be…? Here is the result. In truth, they are not excessively complex, nor incredibly difficult, but, these patterns are not recommended for beginners. They are made for those who are comfortable knitting already, and want to use what they already know to get an unusually flattering and wearable garment.
That said, if you are adventuresome, and enjoy a long knit, some confident beginners might like them as a starting point to learn new skills. Just be aware that the pattern will not include detailed tutorials for the skills and stitches used, you will need to use google and YouTube for “how-tos”.
You will need to be comfortable (or willing to learn before you come to the point in the pattern where you need to use it) working in the round and flat, knit and purl, slipping stitches, increasing and decreasing, picking up stitches, and grafting.
This tee is worked back and forth till the top of the slits, then in the round until the sleeves. The sleeves are worked along with the body, and the only seams to be sewn are the hem at the bottom and the shoulders.
