In Mid-Atlantic winters, when most trees have lost their leaves and flowers have fallen asleep, the sight of feathery green juniper trees (often hiding plump blue “berries” or cones among their branches) always fills me with wonder. The Juniper Sprig Cowl pays homage to the beautiful texture of a cheery juniper sprig in a winter’s landscape. Worked in the round, this cowl uses slipped stitches and Right Twists to create sprig shapes, while the borders are worked in the Twisted Rib pattern. The pattern calls for fingering weight yarn, which gives the cowl lots of drape for tucking inside one’s coat or wearing over a sweater. Both written and charted instructions are provided for this pattern.
