Juno One Skein Cowl
The Juno Cowl: Juno was the Roman goddess of marriage and childbirth and was the queen of the gods. She greatly loved and admired a giant named Argus, who had 100 eyes. When he died, Juno honoured his memory by preserving his eyes. She placed them on the feathers of her sacred bird, the peacock, giving the bird its iconic plumage. From then on, the peacock became a symbol of Juno’s majesty, beauty, and divine power.
This pattern is particularly suitable for yarn that has a sheen, and yarns that are tonal or semi solid, as these features will give lustre and depth to your cowl, emulating peacock feathers. This pattern is a great option for a single 100g skein of special hand-dyed sock yarn.
This pattern is improver/intermediate in level and uses UK double and treble crochet (US single and double crochet).
The pattern is available in both UK and US terms, and with left- and right-handed instructions for both. Charted instructions are also included.
This pattern is worked with a 4mm hook, bigger than normally recommended for a 4ply yarn to create a luxurious drape. If you are very tight crocheter and normally go up a hook size to work in 4ply yarn, you may wish to move up a further hook size. Compare your results to the photographs in the pattern to evaluate if your tension is appropriate. If you are very unsure work a tension square as advised below.
You will need
• 100g 4 ply yarn e.g. Fyberspates Vivacious 4ply
• 4 mm crochet hook
• 5 mm crochet hook for the foundation chain/row (i.e. a hook 1 mm bigger than your chosen size)
• Yarn needle
• Scissors
