This hat and scarf pattern set is an original design by Deb Kessler of Fearless Fibers. The set features a highly textured knit stitch pattern that resembles crochet. Knit with a heavy worsted weight yarn, this set is an easy and quick knit that yields an interesting and complex texture with minimal effort.

The stitch pattern is reversible, so the scarf is the same on both sides. (The photos here are sadly lacking, but you can see a bit more of the interesting stitch detail in the close up photo.)

For ease of knitting, the hat is designed to be knit on straight needles and seamed when complete. With the heavy texture of the stitch pattern, the seam is unobtrusive in the finished piece and knitting on straight needles avoids many cumbersome P2TOG’s with heavy yarn, which would be necessary to knit this stitch pattern in the round. Instructions in the pattern include three sizes for the hat.

Yarn requirements: Heavy worsted wool yarn. Fearless Fibers Heavy Worsted Merino Yarn is used in the sample photos (available at Fearless Fibers). The scarf requires approximately 200 yards to yield a finished piece of 6 X 50 inches. The hat requires 80 to 100 yards depending on size knit.

Needles: Scarf is knit with US #10 (6 mm) needles and hat is knit with US #9 (5.5 mm) needles.
