These mittens might seem to be the height of basic--ribbed cuff in two length variations and stockinette hand, knit in the round from the cuff down—but they come loaded with options. The pattern is written in three yarn weights (bulky, worsted, and fingering) and five different sizes from toddlers up to men’s large. The fingering weight can also be made up as liners to really bring on the cozy!

Make these even more interesting by using them as a base for your favourite colour charts. Just Plain Mittens? Just plain awesome!

Bonus Fleece Liner: If you want the warmth of two layers but don’t want to take the time to knit up the mittens in fingering weight to line, use these fast-finish sewn fleece liners to double it up!

WORSTED WEIGHT: 4.0 mm (US 6) double-pointed needles, or size needed to obtain gauge; 1, 2, 2, 2, 2 50 g/99.0 m (1.75 oz/110 yds) balls worsted-weight yarn (I used Knit Picks Wool of the Andes Superwash)
FINGERING WEIGHT: 3.25 mm (US 3) double-pointed needles, or size needed to obtain gauge;
SHELL: 1, 1, 2, 2, 2 50 g/207.9 m (1.75 oz./231 yds) balls fingering-weight yarn (I used Knit Picks Chroma); LINER: 1, 1, 1, 1, 2 (50g/231 yds) balls fingering-weight sock yarn (I used Knit Picks Stroll);
ALL: yarn needle; scrap of yarn for marker;
FLEECE LINING (OPTIONAL): Scrap of polar or arctic fleece at least 25 cm/11” long x 75cm/30” wide. (“Stretch” needs to be in the width.), thread and sewing needle.

Printing Suggestion: If you choose to print this pattern, it will be easiest to follow if you print it double-sided and staple it down the left side in booklet form. Also, choose the “Print Actual Size” option in your print dialogue box to make sure the sewing patterns are printed accurately.
