Just Ripe Socks
Get ready for the autumn. All the lovely colors and tastes and smells… Enjoy the cooling weather and keep your toes warm!
These toe-up socks feature colourwork on the foot and on the leg. It is gorgeus but simple, no long floats! (Well two rows with long floats to catch, but that’s all!)
This is first time working with this sock yarn and it feels very rustic and down to earth, just perfect for autumn. And the colors! They are so rich and deep.
The socks are knitted from toes to the cuff and have a German short row heel and cuff hem that is folded to the inside to form a nice picot edge.
The pattern requires some prior knowledge of sock knitting.
Pattern uses the following:
- Judy’s magic cast on
- Increases: Make one left, make one right
- Charted colorwork (colored and b&w)
- German short row heel (no gusset)
- Double stitches
- Wrap and turn
- Picot hem on cuff (Here is great tutorial by Suzanne Bryan for invisible and stretchy method of sewing the edge: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uih-l-vRxNU)
Sizes
Size is based on stitch count:
Size 1 - 48 sts - 19 cm / 7,4 inch (apprx. circumference)
Size 2 - 54 sts - 21 cm / 8,3 inch
Size 3 - 60 sts - 24 cm / 9,6 inch
Size 4 - 66 sts - 26 cm / 10,4 inch

Yarn
The sample socks took about two skeins of Tukuwool Sock, which is lovely rustic sport weight sock yarn from Finland. The sample was knit in colors Valo (MC) and Haave (CC)
Estimated yarn requirement for sizes is 1-1-1-2-2 skeins of each color.
Please note that the amount of yarn needed may vary because of gauge (specially on colourwork) and adjustments to the lenght of the sock.
Needles and Gauge
26 sts / 36 rows per 10 cm / 4 Inch.
2 mm / US0 double point needles.
Check the gauge also on colourwork as other sizes of needles may be needed. The sample socks were knitted with 2mm / US0 needles but the colourwork on the leg was knitted with 2,5 mm needles.
