Two-color brioche is a perfect technique to allow handspun to shine, especially when paired with a solid millspun in a neutral. Chain-plied handspun was chosen so that the order of colors dyed in the fiber would be maintained and focused with minimal blending and maximally distinct striping. The fiber was split into four strips along its length prior to spinning with the intention that the yarn would be used for small-diameter knitting. This allowed for the expression of the color repeats multiple times throughout the project.

Kagami is the Japanese word for “mirror,” and chosen for this pattern not only because of the Three Waters Farm colorway “Mirror Lake” used, but also with having spun it as a chain-ply, the mitts directly reflect the colors dyed into the fiber.
