The inspiration for this scarf comes from baktus scarf, hence playfully the name ”kaktus” (cactus in Finnish). I wanted to knit a scarf which would properly stay on a toddler and which would keep the front and back of the neck warm. Short end of the scarf is passed through an opening on one side of the neck and this makes the scarf a true ”stay-on” garment. Both the broad front and back of the scarf resemble a collar, but like any other scarf the garment is tied on a knot in the front. The stretchy garter stitch ensures a good fit for a growing child (from 1- to 4-year-olds).

All you need is two double point needles, your yarn and a tapestry needle. For a striped scarf you want to have approximately 30 g of maincolour and 15 g of highlight colour.
