Kallaveden Aallot

Kallaveden aallot is inspired by traditional Finnish rugs, woven with recycled fabric scraps. My favourite rug pattern has always been Äänisen aallot, (“Waves of Lake Oniegu”), which reminds me of waves but also Italian paper marbling. Instead of Oniegu, these socks are named after Lake Kallavesi, one of the best places in the world.
- The socks are knit toe-up with Cat Bordhi’s Riverbed Architecture heel structure.
- The pattern works best with short stripes of varying widths. It is ideal for scraps or yarns that produce short stripes.
- The lace pattern is not charted but it is an easy to memorise short repeat.
- You can adjust size by changing gauge or adding instep stitches and/or rows.
The pattern assumes you are familiar with basic sock techniques. Feel free to review the pattern beforehand to see it has all the information you want for your knitting!
