ABOUT THE PATTERN
Six years ago, my husband was in Afghanistan and I was stationed in South Korea for a year with the military. During that long year, we both recieved two weeks “vacation” where we could go anywhere we wanted. We chose to meet in Hawaii. After significant travel on both of our parts, we were able to meet in Hawaii and spend two weeks in a private cabin on the ocean just over the landing strip on Marine Corp Base Hawaii - Kaneohe Bay. This shawl would have been perfect for walking along the beach and exploring the island!
Measurements
Depth without fringe: 13” (33 cm)
Length Along Top Edge: 58 (147 cm)
Yarn:
La Jolla by Baah Yarns in “Seashell”; 100 % SW Merino; 400 yds (365 m); 115 g (4.1 oz); Fingering Weight; Approximately 2 skeins or 685 yds (626 m); 197 g (6.9 oz) needed
Needles:
US 7 (4.5 mm) circular needle, or size to obtain gauge at least 40” (102 cm) long
Notions:
Tapestry needle, stitch markers (2)
Optional Notions:
Command wall hooks (2-3), and a long wire/rod that can be threaded through the i-cord bind off so the shawl can be hung to make the fringe easier to assemble. The sample used a 3/16” (0.5 cm) diameter x 6’ (183 cm) long steel rod
Gauge:
17 sts / 31 rows = 4” / 10 cm in Stockinette Stitch using US 7 (4.5 mm) after wet blocking
Exact gauge is not critical, but because the shawl requires nearly the entire yardage of each color, deviation from the gauge will affect the size of the shawl and yarn requirements.
Techniques Used:
Basic lace, short rows, i-cord bind off, left facing square knot
Additional Notes:
Pattern is written out and has been professionally technical edited. Thank you to baah, misnim, jamesnjess, and 2HalvesofTrouble for being amazing test knitters!
