Katiebird Mitts
Pattern Inspiration:
This pattern was inspired by and designed for my dear friend Katie. Katiebird is her childhood nickname, and I thought it was the perfect name for this design. Katie is colorful and fun and loves to laugh, so I wanted to design her a whimsical hat that will go with everything! She loved the idea of puff stitches, so I turned them into feather-like sections inspired by her nickname. These mitts and the coordinating scarf were created to match the original hat.
Basic Information:
Pattern is written in US crochet terms.
Yarn: DK weight (weight 3). Approximately 175 yards. I used approximately 160 yards of Me and Ewe DK (100% superwash merino wool, 231 yards/100g) yarn in the color Kingfisher.
Hook: 4.5 mm, or size needed to meet gauge.
Finished size: Laying flat, after blocking, 3.5” wide at the ribbing, 3.25” wide at the top opening, 8” long.
Gauge: Before blocking, 11.5 rows of hdc blo ribbing = 4” long. After blocking, 19 sts by 7.5 rows in the main stitch repeat = 4” x 4”
