Needles: US size 4 (3.5mm.) and US size 8 (5mm.) 24in. (60cm.) circular needles for body and US size 8 (5mm.), 7 (4.5mm.), 6 (4mm.), 5 (3.75mm.) and 4 (3.5mm.), all 9-12in. (23-30cm.) for sleeve shaping. Sleeve shaping can be alternatively worked on the US size 8 (5mm.) alone if desired, however sleeve decreases would need to be worked to bring the cuff to the desired circumference.
See calculations for this method in sleeve shaping.
Gauge: 20 sts and 32 rows = 4in. (10cm.) in stockinette stitch on smaller body needles.
16 sts and 28 rows = 4in. (10cm.) on larger body needle - AFTER BLOCKING. Please take the time to wash and block your swatch to ensure proper fit.
Please check gauge with both needle sizes. The correct gauge dictates both finished size and garment shaping in the pattern.
Notions: Scissor, tapestry needle, tape measure, removable stitch markers, crochet hook, stitch holders or waste yarn. Additional needle for 3-needle bind off. One size larger than used for larger body needle if bind off is too tight.
Notes: Katy is a V-neck, drop shoulder pullover with exposed seams and a rolled neck edge. The body is knit flat from CF/CB out to the sides and the neck shaping is completed with short rows. Much of the shaping is done by changing needle sizes, however alternate directions are given if decreases are preferred. It is meant to be oversized with approximately 4 to 10in. (10 to 25cm.) of positive ease. Ease however is a personal preference so please choose sizing accordingly. It is worked flat in 4 pieces and seamed via 3-needle BO for the side seams and mattress stitch or crochet chain for the exposed CF and CB seams. Live sleeve stitches are picked up and the sleeves are worked seamlessly in the round and shaped by changes in the size of the needles used. This is the perfect project to use your smaller circular shortie needle sets. Sleeve shaping can alternately be done with only 1 size needle if desired and the decreases required are provided in the sleeve directions. Katy is the DK weight version of my previously published pattern, Catherine.
