Kavya
This design is a part of my first mini shawl collection - Shawlaholics Ed.1.
Many thanks to Anne of Little Skein in the Big Wool, for giving me a chance to work with her beautiful yarn for this collection.
PATTERN INFO
Kavya is a one-color brioche shawl worked sideways and shaped into a crescent using short row wedges. The wedges use simple knit-purl texture stitches, while a beautiful brioche motif is repeated along the border.
I love how the shape and the size of the shawl lets it sit on your shoulders comfortably and wrap around generously.

Kavya (pronounced kāvyá) refers to a literary style used by ancient poets of India, typically to write lengthy epic poems. Such poems described the lives and times of heroic and extraordinary men and women.
I named this shawl “Kavya” (as in epic) to be reminded of the extraordinary pandemic times we live in! The whole world is in this together, yet we have to stay apart even from a neighbor. The air is much cleaner but you must wear a mask. Oh, the number of things we have adapted to in a few months time! As a race, we have learnt to slow down, reflect, be grateful and appreciate the smallest blessings in life.

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
Length (including border): 62” / 157 cm.
Depth : 15.75” / 40 cm.
YARN REQUIREMENTS
725 yards / 663 m of fingering weight yarn.
Here are some yarn related suggestions to play with :
- A solid or tonal yarn would show off
both the garter stripes and the
brioche border well. - A high twist yarn would bring in some extra stitch definition.
- A non-superwash or other rustic fiber would help hold the double layer of brioche together.
