The yoke of this cardigan is peppered in “louse” stitch, also
referred to as lice stitch. The traditional lice stitch pattern
originated in Norway. The single stitch in a contrasting color
was worked every other round which created a heavier knit
fabric. For this design the lice stitches are worked every 5
rounds. The fabric is kept light and you are left with a pleasing
array of colorful stitches scattered over the yoke. Try it in black
and white, or work your lice stitch in an assortment of bright
colors. You could also continue the lice stitch over the entire
cardigan, it’s up to you!
