During workshops at Wynona Studios in Oregon City, Oregon, I asked knitters which types of projects they’d like to knit to use their newfound skills. Many of them wanted to knit personalized sweaters for children and grandchildren. The Kelly Sweater is a basic raglan construction that can be customized for appropriate motifs and sizing. It’s designed for a loose, casual fit, and the sleeve and body can be lengthened as the child grows. The body and sleeves are knitted in the round from the lower edges to the armholes, then joined together and the yoke is knitted in one piece to the shoulders, with the neck shaped along the way. The motifs are worked in the Annetarsia ITR technique.

The sweater is shown in two versions, named for Noah and Drew Kelly, whose grandma, Tammie, participated in the Wynona workshop and test-knit some of the motif swatches included in Chapter 4.
