YARN, GAUGE, SIZE AND MACHINE
This design works a little bit differently from most. Use any machine that has thread lace, punch lace or fairisle capabilities in any gauge. See the thread lace paragraph below. Follow the same instructions whichever gauge you select. The size will vary based on the yarn, machine and needle count. Some needle counts are suitable only for standard or mid-gauge machines because other machines lack sufficient needles. For example, the largest size may be knitted only on standard gauge machines. But a shawl or scarf of a similar size may be produced on a mid-gauge or bulky machine because the stitches will be larger. Here’s how to choose and predict using the numbers listed in the main pattern. But you may actually knit pretty much any size. See the paragraph below on adjusting size.
Standard gauge sizes:
If the stitch gauge is 7 stitches/ 10 rows per inch, a gauge typical of standard machines using fingering-light sport weight yarn, the sizes will come out 1214, 16, 18, 20, 22, 24, 26” from the top edge to the point of the triangle. The length from tail to tail will be 33.639.6, 45.6, 50.4, 56.4, 62.4, 67.2, 73.2
Mid-gauge sizes:
If stitch gauge is 5 stitches/8 rows per inch, a gauge typical of mid-gauge machines using DK yarn, the sizes will come out 16.819.8, 22.8, 25.2, 28.2” from the top edge to the point of the triangle. The length from tail to tail will be 4249.5, 57, 63, 70.5
Bulky sizes:
If stitch gauge is 4 stitches/6 rows per inch, a gauge typical of mid-gauge machines using worsted yarn, the sizes will come out 2124.75” from the top edge to the point of the triangle. The length from tail to tail will be 5666

For the sample, Tamm Bebe in a variegated color was used as color 1 and a slightly sparkly industrial mill end that is probably 2/28 in weight was used as color 2. The sample is true fairisle but looks lacy because one of the yarns is so much thinner than the other.
