This is a beginner-friendly pattern that’s completely customisable. The gauge doesn’t really matter, because you will go by the physical measurement of your knitting as you go along. Which means you can use any weight yarn you want!

To get the look and feel of the one pictured, use a fingering weight yarn in a fine merino/cashmere blend. This one was knit up with a 3.5 mm needle size, which made for a soft, squishy, slightly loose-knit fabric.

If you use our measurements and recommendations, it’ll only take one skein, which means it’s a great opportunity to splurge on a “treat” yarn (my splurge was Smith and Ewe Maryanne’s Bliss, a gorgeous hand-dyed yarn from Kamloops, BC.), or make use of that one special ball of yarn from your stash that’s just been waiting for the right project.
