This pattern was part of my Icelandic yarn Club 2 and is now available as a single PDF.
Whenever I get my hands on a beautiful or special skein of yarn, but just one, and I’m not sure what I can do with it, I go for this simple yet elegant beret with its clean spiraling decreases in the crown. I’ve made quite many of them in all sort of beautiful yarns and gifted them to friends and family.
I have now written the pattern for you with a rounded cast on that is not just lovely but also makes the edge stretchy just as it should be. You can knit the beret plain or decorate it with a whimsy leaf detail combining lace and cables, to which I added a few bobbles and a braided cord like the Vikings used to make to attach their clothes and embellish them. I named the beret after the plant the wool was dyed with.
Size: one size fits all. Depth easily adjustable.
Gauge
10 cm / 4” = 18 sts x 24 rows in St st on 4.5 mm/US 7 needle with Aran weight yarn.
Check your gauge and if necessary change needle size to obtain the correct gauge.

You can use any Aran weight yarn to complete this project and will need less than 1 ball. You can use scrap yarn for the bobbles and braided cord, or have them in the same color as the beret.
