The Kettle Valley Railway was built in the early 1900s to service the growing mining demands of the Interior of British Columbia. After the final section was abandoned in 1989, much of the route was converted to a multi-use recreational trail, including the awe-inspiring trestles and tunnels of Myra Canyon.

Inspired by the grandeur of the Myra Canyon trestles and tunnels, Kettle Valley is a top-down triangle shawl with clean lines and classic texture. Equally beautiful as a solid shawl with fringe or with three contrasting colours, this smart design will keep you wanting more after every row!

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS

70” / 178cm across by 30” / 76cm deep.

All measurements taken unstretched after blocking.

YARDAGE REQUIREMENTS

Worsted weight yarn: 700y / 640m (300g) of a solid colour; OR 280y/260m (120g) for Colour A, and 210y/195 (90g) each for Colour B and Colour C. Extra yardage is required for fringe.

The sample yarn is a beautifully airy woolen-spun yarn. Substituting with a worsted spun yarn will result in a heavier yet equally beautiful garment that will require more than the listed yarn weights for each colour. Substituting based on yardage requirements will be a more accurate estimation.

This shawl’s gorgeous texture best shows with solid, tonal, or kettle-dyed colourways.

MATERIALS

Three-colour sample shown in: Julie Asselin Nurtured (100% wool; woolen-spun; 130y/118m per 56g), using Homme Fort (Colour A), Natural (Colour B), and Compass (Colour C).

Solid sample shown in: Knitpicks Wool of the Andes Worsted (100% wool; plied; 110y/100m per 50g), using Cobblestone Heather.

Notions: stitch markers, darning needle.

GAUGE/SUGGESTED NEEDLES

16 st over 4” / 10cm in stockinette stitch after blocking.

Suggested needles: 5.5mm (US 9), or size needed to obtain listed gauge, 40” circular needle.

A different gauge will affect finished measurements and yardage requirements.
