keziah beret
A cosy beret with an addictive lace pattern that makes you want to just knit one more round.
Hat patterns are £3 individually or purchase any 2 together for £5, no code needed
YARN: either DK or worsted weight yarn (see Sizing notes).
DK: 169 (187) metres / 183 (203) yards.
Worsted: 170 (189) metres / 185 (206) yards.
Sample shown in Lily Kate Makes AXIS Worsted in shade Caldera. If using this yarn, you will need 2 skeins.
GAUGE: 1 pattern repeat at widest point measures 3.5 inches / 9 cm, after blocking.
NEEDLES & NOTIONS:
For brim: 16” / 40 cm needle in size 3.5mm (DK) or 4mm (worsted)
For main hat: 16” / 40 cm needle in size 4mm (DK) or 4.5mm (worsted)
For crown shaping: needles of your preferred length for working small circumferences in the round (ie. DPNs, long circulars for magic loop), 4mm (DK) or 4.5mm (worsted)

SIZING:
2 yarn weights and 2 stitch counts make for 4 options:
- Smaller stitch count + DK weight = kids size
- Smaller stitch count + worsted weight = average adult size
- Greater stitch count + DK weight = average adult size
- Greater stitch count + worsted weight = larger adult size
Sample shown in worsted weight yarn with smaller stitch count, which comfortably fits an adult head of circumference 22.5” / 57 cm.
CHOOSING YARN: the lace stitch pattern relies heavily on blocking to open up and reveal the detail. For this reason, I would recommend using yarns with majority animal fibre content such as wool and alpaca. Synthetic fibres such as acrylic will not open up during blocking or hold their shape, so the resultant beret will remain lumpy and won’t show the stitch pattern.
CONSTRUCTION: the entire hat is worked from the inside out, to create a reverse stocking stitch fabric without much purling.
