KIDS Classic Thrummed Mittens
This Pattern was written for KIDS Mittens only. Please check out my “Classic Thrummed Mittens” for Adult Sizes.
The Dubbele Dutch thrummed mittens were designed with the traditional aspects of the classic Eastern Canadian mittens. The pattern uses 100% wool and roving but the colour choice is yours, making them fun and modern.
Thrummed mittens are made using tiny rovings that are knit into the pattern creating little hearts throughout, while making an insulating layer on the inside. You will be working in the round with double pointed needles from the cuff up to the tip of the mitten.
This pattern features a thumb gusset that can be worn on either hand (there is no specific right or left hand mitten). Doing this helps the roving to felt evenly on both the front and back of the mitten.
I have added a few more thrums to this design for more warmth and a few more sizes so everyone can benefit from the warmth of these cozy mittens!
SUGGESTED YARNS:
Patons Classic Wool / Worsted Weight / 100% Wool / 192m/201yds
Cascade 220 / Worsted Weight / 100% Peruvian Wool / 220yds / 100g
Roving 100 % Pure Merino Wool Roving - 100g
You can use any worsted weight yarn but please make sure you use a 100% wool fibre for both the working yarn and roving. Wool roving will felt overtime so to get the full effect of the insulating layer inside your mitten, you need to be working with 100% wool to see the magic happen.
