Kids Marbled Hoodie
Our baby marbled hoodie pattern has proved so popular and we were being asked for children’s sizes so the whole family could have one. The hood features the textured pattern and a ribbed band for a good fit. We used James Brett Marble for our hoodie but you could use any chunky yarn which gets you the same tension /gauge.
This is the children’s pattern and is sized from a 20 to 30 inch chest size with 4 inches/20cm of ease built into the sizing. The cardigan features two optional pockets to the front, ribbed bands and an attractive textured pattern on the yoke area. Worked flat using two needles and one circular needle for the hood/button bands, this is an easy knit and suitable for a first garment. The body and sleeve length are deliberately long to allow for growth spurts, the ribbed cuffs and hems should keep them nicely in place, disguising any extra length. You can adjust body or sleeve length to fit if you wish.
Sizes:
To fit 20, 22, 24, 26, 28, 30 in chest with 2-4 inches of ease for layering.
Measurements are shown in the photos to the left.
Materials
James C Brett, Marble Chunky, 200g, 312m, 324yds per ball. Lanas Stop Belt, 100g, 197yds, 180m per ball.
Notions:
Size 5mm (US 8) & 6mm (US 10) needles (a circular 5mm needle 16-32 inches would be helpful for the bands and hood borders which are knitted in one piece, however straight needles can be used just as easily). Tapestry needle for sewing in ends. Buttons or toggles: 6-8 (instructions assume 6 buttons)
Stitch markers, 4 for raglans and pocket placement.
Tension / Gauge:
14sts x 20 rows per 4”/10cm square in stocking stitch on larger needles. Try larger needles if you have more sts per inch or smaller needles if you have too few sts per inch.
