I decided to write down and publish this pattern since many of my friends asked this hat for their children or themselves so I’ve made plenty of them recently.

The Kikka Hat is a simple and quick project suitable for advanced beginners. This fitted beanie with a folded brim is seamless, worked in the round with bottom up construction. Smaller that usual needles are used to create a dense fabric.

Recommended yarn: this pattern is a fruit of my love-hate relationship with superwash merino yarns that often grow badly and lose the form after washing. So smaller needles are used and the fabric is very dense. I recommend worsted/aran weight or fingering weight merino held double. If you are using yarn of another origin, DK would work nicely.

Sizes: Toddler, Child 3-5, Child 6-9, Adult to fit head circumference approx. 47 – 50 – 53 – 58 cm or 18.5” – 19.5” – 21” – 22.5”.

Estimated yarn required: Fingering (held double): 240-280-320-360 m + about 90m for pompoms.
Worsted: 120-140-160-180 m + about 45m for pompoms.

Needles: 3mm (US 2.5) circular needle, 2,5 mm US 1.5) circular needle for the rib or size needed to obtain gauge.

Gauge: 21sts and 35 rnds in 10 cm (4”) in double moss st.

Experience level: work in the round, knit, purl, common decreases.
