Kili – poor heartbroken Kili! He certainly deserves excellent armor to go fight orcs. These gloves were extremely enjoyable to design and knit up. I hope you enjoy making them as much as I did! There are 3 finishing options for these gloves: open fingerless mitt style, 3 fingers enclosed, and full fingers (as for a traditional glove). In the Hobbit movies, Kili’s gloves have the left hand fingerless and the right hand has 3 fingers enclosed. If you want your gloves to be authentic to the movies, make them asymmetrical!

I have supplied my scales from TheRingLord.com website, using the “small” size. The style are “Titanium” in the colors Gold, Green, and Mixed.

This is not the only scalemail supplier, but it was cheapest I found in North America and they had the most variety. If you are somewhere else in the world, you may find better/cheaper options on another site, just search for “scalemail supplies” or “scalemaille supplies”. Feel free to try scales made from different materials! If you want a washable pair of gauntlets, use plastic scales.

The sizing on this pattern span from a small woman up to a large man. Make sure you check your palm measurement to ensure you are casting on for the right size! This unisex pattern looks just as great on a man as it does on a woman.

Small: 7” (18)

Techniques: Knitting in the round, basic increases and decreases, cabling, and basic scalemail placing techniques (see the video tutorial if you are new to this technique! It’s very easy to master).

Notions: 6 stitch markers, a cable needle, 250 - 500 small scalemail scales (about ¾”/2.25 mm long), 2 stitch holders, and a small tapestry needle.
