THE INSPIRATION
From the moment I completed the first prototype for this design, I knew exactly what I wanted to call it. Maybe I’m crazy, but to me, this beanie just oozes a quirky, over-the-top confidence that I always feel when I sing along to one of my favorite songs, “Killer Queen” by Queen. If you haven’t heard the song, look it up and you’ll see what I mean…it’s extraordinarily nice! Your friends are sure to ask you where you got your awesome new hat, and you will be able to reply with absolute confidence that you made it yourself!
THE CONSTRUCTION
This surprisingly simple beanie design features a cozy folded up brim, a stunning chevron stitch, and a perky pom pom on top. An adventurous beginner in the knitting realm could easily complete this project, as the pattern is made with simple knits and purls. You will need to know how to cast on, work in the round, knit, purl, and decrease by knitting two stitches together; and I will show you how to put all these techniques together to create a truly killer beanie. Plus, I’ll teach you how to make a full, lush pom pom WITH YOUR HAND. How cool is that??
THE YARN
I had the privilege of working with the most amazing hand-dyed Fibrelya Bamba yarn to create the pattern sample! The fiber is a soft and light, yet STRONG 70% wool, 20% bamboo, 10% nylon; so it is the perfect choice if you plan on wearing this beanie a lot. I chose the colorway “Stellar,” and I was just blown away by how vibrant and deep the colors are! You can order this yarn in a variety of stunning and unique colorways directly from Fibrelya’s website, linked above.
