This sock pattern by Hand Knit by Kam is inspired by the kids who have been separated from their parents at the border. The pattern consists of slipped stitches that symbolize a hug, and the spaces created by the yarn overs represent the absence of a person. Allison Barnes Yarn created the colors for this inspired by Frida Kahlo’s house in Mexico City, known as La Casa Azul. The house is now a museum.

50% of the proceeds from this yarn and pattern kit will go to Kids In Need of Defense, an organization that provides legal help to the children that have been separated from their families at the border between Mexico and the USA.

Each kit comes with one 50-gram skein of the main colour (La Casa Azul), and one 25-gram skein of the contrast colour (The Fountain); enough to complete the shortie socks pattern. The yarn is my Basic Sock base (80% superwash merino, 20% nylon). The pattern download code for RAVELRY will be mailed with the yarn.
