❤️ The father of taxonomy and botanist, Swedish-born Carl Linnaeus, gave the protea (Proteaceae) its name in 1735.
❤️ Proteas are named after Proteus, son of Poseidon and shape-shifter, highlighting the variety of plants found within the large Proteaceae family.
❤️ There are over 1500 species in the Protea family growing in many different shapes, sizes, and colors.
❤️ The King Protea got its name due to resembling a crown and also because it is the largest among all the other Proteas.
❤️ King Protea symbolizes courage and diversity.
❤️ King protea gets all the water it needs from the fog. Leaves absorb moist which collects on their surface.
The leaves of king protea can be consumed in the form of tea.
❤️ There are 81 varieties of king protea.
❤️ King protea is the national flower of South Africa. The national cricket team of South Africa is known as “the Proteas”.
❤️ The King Protea can live up to 15 years in the wild.
❤️ The Queen Protea because it is the second-largest among all the other Proteas. It is said to be one of the most attractive and sought-after proteas.
❤️ The Queen Protea has variable leaves. In nature, the color range of the outer floral bracts is broad, including greenish cream, cream, pink, salmon pink, rosy reds, and deep carmine.
