Kingfisher Tee
The Kingfisher Tee is a bright, airy knit, designed to wear on a mild summer day letting the breeze blow through the stitches. Fitted to the waist, it is perfect for wearing with a pencil skirt or your favourite high-waisted jeans. A versatile design that sits snug against the waist and loosely over the bust and shoulders. This tee is a seamless simple knit with a modified feather lace pattern running up the centre and around the neckline.
Like the Kingfisher with its characteristic turquoise band centred on its tail, the lace accentuates the verticality of the torso, drawing the eye up to the neck and face. The wide triangular shoulders accentuate the natural shaping of the body from waist to shoulder, lying loosely over the top of the arm, fluttering in the breeze.
The Kingfisher Tee is knit in the round from the bottom up to the armpits, then back and forth to finish the front and back separately. A central lace pattern runs up the centre front and then around the neckline and is mimicked along the armhole edges. Simple increases at the sides and armhole openings form the triangular shape with simple decreases creating the v-neckline. The only seaming is at the shoulders where two sets of live stitches are grafted together. Finally, a small ribbed edging is picked up and knit around the neck and armholes.
The Kingfisher is knit with the wonderfully British Lyonesse 4-ply wool and linen mix from Blacker Yarns. This yarn has such a unique texture, especially after blocking when the linen relaxes creating a very soft, lightweight fabric that makes it perfect for warmer weather wears - keeping us in hand knits all through the year! This yarn comes in 16 beautiful colours, all named after precious stones.
The sample shown here is knit in the Lapis colourway in size 2. Phillipa is modelling it with 6cm positive ease around the bust and 8cm negative ease around the waist.
Kingfisher is designed to be worn with 4-8cm positive ease around the bust, and 5-10cm negative ease around the waist. I recommend taking measurements carefully to ensure your tee fits as desired.
