Looking at photos of 1960s Pop Art dresses by French couturier, Yves St Laurent, was the starting point of this design for a cute little mini skirt that is quick and simple to make.

I’ve updated the 1960s feel by dropping the waistline, introducing the subtle ombré shading and selecting a modern colour palette.

I chose a yarn that includes linen because that fibre is very inelastic, and this should give the skirt extra stability and resistance to seating.

The skirt comes in sizes XS (S, M, L, 1X, 2X, 3X), to fit hips 33 (36, 40, 44, 48, 53, 55) in. Actual hips 35½ (38, 42, 46, 50½, 54½, 56¾) in. Designed to be worn 1¼ - 2 in below natural waist and to fit with approx. 2 in positive ease. If you want this skirt to fasten around your natural waist, just add two rows to each of the plain-colored sections. Additional length can also be added in this way, but remember that for any adjustment, you may need to buy more yarn.

Yarn used: Drops Belle DK weight yarn; 130 yd per 1.76 oz ball; 53% cotton, 33% viscose, 14% linen.

Yarn Quantities: Col A: 2(2,2,2,3,3,3)balls in Old Pink 11;ColB: 2(2,3,3,3,3,4) balls in Cherry 12; Col C: 2 (2, 3, 3, 3, 3, 4) balls in Violet 18.

The skirt is worked in the round from the hem upwards, and there are no seams to sew. The pattern includes full instructions on how to work the two-color, spike stitch sections, and there is a link to a video tutorial too.

The pdf download includes the pattern in both US and UK crochet terms. Just print pp 1 - 3 for the US version, or pp 4 - 6 for the UK version.
