Kiran Cowl
Kiran Cowl is made with a twisted stitch pattern that creates a lovely textured fabric. Kiran is worked in the round for the majority of the project, with a short section worked flat at the beginning to create a stylish slit.
The tapering of the cowl is achieved in laid-back ways: by switching from flat to circular knitting and then going down a needle size. Many knitters find that they knit tighter when switching from knitting back and forth to knitting in the round. Rather than being put off by this, the design incorporates it as a feature.
Kiran is one of four patterns from CUTILITARIAN KNITS, designed for Malabrigo MFPP Collection. Read more about it here on Malabrigo’s blog.

4.5mm / US 7 for the bottom and
4mm / US 6 for the top portion of the cowl.
GAUGE
26 sts X 26 rows = 4″/ 10 cm, measured over twisted motif, blocked, using 4.5mm needles.
28 sts X 32 rounds = 4″/ 10 cm, in 1X1 twisted ribbing, blocked, using 4.5mm needles.
30 sts X 30 rounds = 4″/ 10 cm, in 1X1 twisted ribbing, blocked, using 4mm needles.
Note: Matching pattern gauge accurately is not critical to this project. But the pattern provides a good opportunity to observe one’s gauge variations while knitting flat, in the round and changing needle sizes.
