Kirby-Wirby is a sassy, adventurous cutie who loves snuggling, unicorns, and roller derby. Read him a bedtime story, or take him on a road trip or out for a drink (he loves an ice cold Dr. Pepper!). Make a dozen and have a Kirby-Wirby-party! He’s going to be your new best friend for life!
This pattern was designed for knitting in the round, in any manner you like (magic loop, circulars, double points). Limbs are knit first and then worked directly into the body as you go, so that no sewing is required at the end, except to close the bottom of the body. Pattern includes instructions for his accessories: legwarmers, crossbody bag, earflap hat, unicorn hat, and roller skates. You can also knit your Kirby-Wirby a pair of colourful socks.
Pattern has been tech-edited and test knitted.
Finished size:
With a heavy worsted weight yarn and 4.5mm (US7) needles the finished size is:
Head to toe, without accessories: 17” / 44cm and
With accessories on, tip of unicorn horn to bottom of roller skates: 20” / 51cm
Yarn Requirements:
- 150 yds/137m body colour for the body and limbs
- 6 yds/5.5m each of 6 different colours for striped legwarmers
- 15 yds/13m for crossbody bag
- 40 yds/37m for earflap hat
- 45 yds/41m for unicorn hat base
- 1-2 yds/1-2m for unicorn horn
- 15 yds/14m multi-coloured yarn for mane on unicorn hat
- 40 yds/37m white for roller skates
- 10 yds/9m black for roller skates
- 30 yds/27m gray for roller skate wheels
- 50 yds/45m any colour for a pair of socks
I used 12mm safety eyes on this size.
Gauge is not important. You need only make sure you are using a needle size small enough to create a fabric tight enough that stuffing will not show through. I usually use a needle about 1-2 sizes smaller than the yarn calls for.
