A revived version of my old Kirkstone hat pattern for 2023! The original (grey) version was a relaxed slouchy shape, which I have updated into a more modern beanie style 12 (!!) years later. The Kirkstone hat pattern features an intuitive cable pattern which gathers neatly together at the crown - both written and charted instructions are given.

YARN: either 1 strand of light DK / sport held with 1 strand of mohair (shown in sample), OR an equivalent 1 strand of worsted. Approx 108 (130) metres / 118 (142) yards.

If using 1 strand, you will need approximately this amount of the 1 yarn. If using 2 strands, you will need approximately this amount of each yarn, ie. 130m of DK and 130m of mohair, not 130m total.

GAUGE: 21 sts and 29 rows to 4” / 10cm in cable pattern, blocked. Suggested needle size 4mm.

NEEDLES & NOTIONS:
For main hat: 4mm & 4.5mm circular needle of length 16” / 40cm
For crown shaping: 4.5mm needles of your preferred length for working small circumferences in the round (ie. DPNs, long circulars for magic loop).
Tapestry needle
Stitch marker
Faux fur pompom (optional)

SIZING: Sizes 1 (2) with finished circumference 15 (18) inches / 38 (46) cm.
Sample shown in size 2 which comfortably fits an adult head of circumference 22.5” / 57 cm. Size 1 will fit a child.
