Kirsti Mittens
Designer has closed her store. Pattern is no longer available.
Handsome M-size folklore inspired flower mittens with beautifully finished, double layer cuff.
The flower motives used in Finnish mittens were usually small in scale and covered the surface in a net of little suggestive blossoms and roses. I have taken a motive used in old mittens from Jalasjarvi and composed Kirsti mittens with two lively, bold flowers and their vibrating leaves. The pattern on the palm side is called “bird’s eye” in Finnish.
Knit Kirsti mittens of aran weight farm yarn to give them a traditional look. You’ll need 100 grams red yarn and 50 grams of blue yarn.
The pattern includes two charts and knitting instructions and requires some skills in stranded knitting.
