KISS - Keep it Simple Scarf
I was inspired by the knit scarf called “Hitchhiker”. I set out to make a crocheted version. In the end, only the shape is similar. I had some other criteria that I wanted to meet. I wanted it to be very easy to make, with only one 400 yard skein of yarn. I wanted it to have super drape and for it to be able to be made for either a man or a woman. The shape is a lovely triangle that has 2 smoother sides and one side has a subtle step that runs from the center point to one end that is achieved with just two basic crochet stitches for the entire scarf. Each scarf takes about 6 hours to make so it is a fast project for novices and advanced crocheters alike.
I’ve made 3 scarfs to show the differences between 3 different weights of yarn. All 3 were made with a skein of 400 yards. I used the same hook size for each. The teal colored scarf is a 2 ply super wash Merino. The gray is a 4 ply super wash & the purple one is a one ply 30% silk & 70% super wash merino. All are 100 gram/400 yard skeins.
Gauge for this pattern is not important.
A smaller yarn makes a lacy & drapier scarf than the other two.
