KISS Shawl Joyful……
Feel the joy,
Share the joy,
Be the joy.
The best things in life are simple.
Joyful is a celebration of simple stitches and classic colours. It’s the ombre effect in the shading of the yarn that makes every row extraordinary.
All the stitches are basic, even the checkered effect of the Houndstooth section is achieved through the simplest of slipped stitches and working with only one colour in each row. Joyfully simple.
This pattern is written out in full row-by-row and does not use charts.
Abbreviations:
SL1KW……….slip one stitch knit wise (as if to knit).
SL1PW……….slip one stitch purl wise (as if to purl.)
P………………..purl.
K………………..knit.
PM……………..place stitch marker.
SM……………..slip stitch marker to right needle.
The Joyful shawl in this picture above uses only two yarns, one I call red and the other white. The colour changes occur naturally through the yarn itself because it is an Ombre/Gradient dyed yarn.
The circular needles are for the volume of stitches but the wrap is knit flat in a simple rectangular shape, (32” minimum length up to 60”). No increases, no decreases just joyful row after row of gorgeous colour that changes within your hands as it passes over the needles.
Spread some gifting joy and knit one for someone you love…even for yourself.
Pattern sample used:
Nako Ombre 100g. 190 m.
2 balls of red , colour number 20312 with 40g. leftover.
2 balls of white #20306
Both yarns used are Ombre which means there are different degrees of red with dark red and white with deeper tan/grey shades. This is what creates the striped effect.
This yarn is available here:

If you are used to doing mosaic style stitches and can keep your tension even when switching between mosaic areas and stocking stitch areas you may not need the 7.5 mm needles. If you are new to it I strongly suggest using them or it may “shrink” in the mosaic sections.
Special thanks to Allison, as always, and to H.W. for tech editing.
The bottom photo shows wearing it by clasping the thicknesses together with an open end cuff bracelet.
Fast and easy and it stays in place.
I have designed a pattern to continue with the technique and to use some of the leftovers. It’s called KISS Cowl Fire And Ice
