Kit Fancot
Kit Fancot and its twin hat, Evelyn Fancot, use a paired twisted cable and lace to create graceful and intricate patterns.
The designs are inspired by the twins at the centre of the Georgette Heyer novel False Colours. True to the story, the Kit hat is the more solid of the two, in colour and in texture.
The paired cables are a nod to the lives of the twins. The novel tells a story of romance and accident pulling the twins together in a tangle of assumed identity.
The close fitting hat is worked in worsted weight yarn from the bottom up. Additional rows can be knitted at the beginning to make the hat a little slouchier.
Every row of the hat is patterned, making this an interesting knit. As the piece is knitted in the round, all rows are right side, making the seemingly complex design suitable for an intermediate knitter.
The pattern has both charts and full written instructions.
The hat uses about half a skein of a yarn with yardage of 200 m (220 yds) per 100 grams. Cascade 220, Cleckheaton Country 8 ply and Bendigo Woollen Mills Luxury 8 ply are all recommended. Other 100% wool yarns with good stitch definition will also knit up well.
