This is a personal pattern based on a purchased trivet from a craft fair, back in the 60’s.

Over the years the pattern has been tweaked and modified, leaving the structure of the pattern as it changed / developed. So what you will find is three different reworked versions of the pattern.

There are other similar patterns on the internet, however I like this pattern better. It takes less yarn and fewer rows, but still provides an impressive trivet. Several variations of this pattern are posted on the original blog.
